Your Experience Here at Ebbw View
We want you to enjoy every aspect of your stay with us, so here are a few things that will help give you an idea of what to expect - and what not to expect - while you are here.
Are we Glamping?
Well, you might have found us by typing that word into a search engine and indeed we love the concept of glamping, with some amazing places to stay that genuinely deserve that identity. For us, though, the focus remains on simple camping for adults only, in a beautiful setting but with basic comforts that you just can't enjoy in a tent. So if your glamping stay requires a hot tub, a 42 inch TV and a hairdryer as an absolute minimum, it's probably best you scroll on through to another website...
Here at Ebbw View Eco Stays, when you arrive, your accommodation will be ready for you, complete with bed and comfy mattress, a two seater sofa, a two ring gas hob and small sink for indoor cooking and a barbeque out on your private decked veranda for cooking on warmer days and evenings. There will be a table and a couple of chairs you can use on the veranda.

No need to bring your own utensils or crockery, we have all the basic equipment you need for chopping, boiling, frying, barbequing and eating your culinary masterpieces. We'll even include a couple of tea towels for whoever draws the short straw for the washing up.
We also provide a hot shower and a composting toilet within your Pod, so there's no lying awake listening to the rain at night, balancing your bladder's needs with your dread of getting dressed and running across a field with a torch to find the toilet block. Yes, we speak from experience...

We knew from the outset that we couldn't compromise on our commitment to work with, rather than against the local environment. Ebbw View Eco Pods have been designed to run entirely off-grid. This means your electricity is provided through a solar power; the water that is pumped into your shower, hand-basin and kitchen sink is filtered rainwater; we will provide you with fresh bottled water free of charge on a daily basis, and your comfort breaks will be taken on an en- suite composting toilet.

As part of this ecologically friendly approach, we also want to minimise frequent washing of bedclothes, duvets and towels which uses excessive water and detergent. As we are also living off-grid on site, we don't have sufficient electricity to run a washing machine and rely on visits to the laundrette for our washing. All a bit tedious really. So we will provide a hand towel for the bathroom but we ask that you bring your own shower towels, duvets, pillows, covers and bed sheets for yourselves, or sleeping bags if you are going for a more authentic camping experience.

Also, as our drainage system will involve water flowing directly back into the soil downhill from your Pod, we need to be mindful of what we send disappearing down the shower and sinks. Therefore we respectfully ask that you use only the natural washing products that we will provide in the Pods. This includes shower gel and shampoo, hand-wash washing up liquid, all of which are very kind to sensitive skin as well as to the earth. Obviously you are also welcome to bring your own natural washing products and just check with us that they are safe for usage here.

We will give you information on where to buy food locally for cooking and our recommendations for good restaurants and take-aways in the area. We strongly encourage you to support smaller local businesses if you can.

When relaxing in or out of your Pod, you should feel relatively secluded, as we have just three Eco Pods in our large field and we have spaced them out generously so you will enjoy a large "garden" of your own and of course, the uninterrupted views across the valley.

With the glass fronted French doors at the front of your Pod, even if a cool evening pulls you back inside from the veranda, you can still get the full benefit of the views and the starry evenings from the warmth and comfort of your living area.

Oh yes... the warmth.... that will be provided during the cooler months by one of our lovely little wood burning stoves, for which we'll give you a quantity of wood that should cover your stay, with more available to buy if you need it.

We also aim to encourage a relaxing and peaceful stay for you and guests in the other Pods, so if late night partying is your thing, we don't want to cramp your style but would suggest a different campsite or a music festival might be more up your alley!

Similarly, there are plenty of great family-oriented sites in and around South Wales if you have children, but we believe our site and the set-up is better suited for adults so we are sorry we can't accommodate those under 16 years of age here.

During your stay you may get to meet one of our resident cats: FatFace, Monkey and Piglet, who hang around the field doing very little; almost certainly you'll see (and hear a welcoming greeting from) Mutton and Jeff, our cheery dogs. You may also want to visit Cagney and Lacey, our gorgeous and often chatty Kune-Kune pigs, who just love a tummy rub. We will be happy to introduce you to them under our supervision if you ask us.

You might observe various sheep, horses and alpacas in nearby fields. These belong to our neighbours and we ask that while you enjoy having the animals as part of your scenery, you also respect their space when walking near boundary fences where they are grazing.

With the range of livestock around us, as well as our own plans to expand our smallholding in the future with chickens and ducks, we regret we cannot accommodate dogs as part of the Eco Stays. Even if you are sure your dog is well-behaved, it is not worth the risk of your pooch slipping their lead and chasing after or otherwise frightening either our pets or neighbouring farm animals. Again there are several dog-friendly camping sites in the region that will be ideal for your needs if you travel with a dog.

So, just allow yourself to leave behind some of the mod cons you take for granted, engross yourself in a simpler life for a few days, breathe the fresh air, explore new landscapes and reconnect with the land.
